A tournament set is only as consistent as its mould.
Before a single piece is weighted, the steel cavity decides it: wall thickness, base diameter, the exact curve of a knight's mane. Get the mould wrong and no amount of sanding will save the set — one king stands a fraction taller, one pawn feels lighter in the hand.
So we treat the mould as the first quality gate, not the last. Each cavity is checked against the master, each run sampled for weight and base fit, and any piece that drifts is pulled before felting, not after packing.
That is how set one and set ten thousand play the same — the same weight in the hand, the same glide across the board, the same Staunton silhouette a player recognises blindfold.
For clubs and distributors, that sameness is the product: no sorting, no complaints, no surprises at the board.
